Find thousands of Mid-Sized kitchen ideas to help you come up with the perfect design for your space. If you’re looking to do a kitchen remodel, keep in mind that a successful Mid-Sized kitchen design needs to blend functionality with personal prerequisites. The hub of the home, this space has evolved from a strictly utilitarian unit into a versatile room to prepare food, entertain guests and share meals. No room is quite as multifunctional as the kitchen. The back screened porch overlooks the lake and dock and is ready for an abundance of extended family and friends to enjoy this beautiful updated and classic lake home. To ensure this family friendly lake house can withstand the traffic, we added sunbrella slipcovers to all the upholstery in the family room. There previously wasn't a fireplace so added one for cozy winter lake days with a herringbone tile surround and reclaimed beam mantle. The solid brass pulls added a little drama, but the light reclaimed open shelves and cross detail on the island kept it from getting too fussy and clean white Quartz countertops keep the kitchen from feeling too dark. With plenty of light once we moved the kitchen and white walls, we were able to go with dramatic black cabinets. The decorative and central feature of the kitchen tile and family room rug really drove the direction of this project. The color palette we went with was navy, black, tan and cream. We also added ship lap strategically to some feature walls and columns. We moved the kitchen from the previous location to the breakfast area to create a more open space floor plan. SMEDIUM SIZE KITCHEN IDEAS UPDATEThis was such a fun project working with these clients who wanted to take an old school, traditional lake house and update it. After the project was completed, the homeowners told us that "this kitchen was the one that our historic house was always meant to have." There is no greater reward for what we do than that. We added a decorative china cabinet and mirrored doors to the homeowner's storage closet to provide light and character to the passageway. Off of the kitchen, the small hallway to the dining room got a facelift, as well. A 42" Shaws farmhouse sink completes the kitchen work triangle. The navy barstools with chrome nailhead trim echo the design of the transoms and repeat the navy and chrome detailing on the custom range hood. The soapstone island with a walnut butcher block seating area adds warmth and character to the space. Pillows in shades of blue and white and a custom walnut table complete the cozy nook. A lovely banquette area was created where the old breakfast table once was and is now graced by a lovely beaded chandelier. The new transoms make quite a statement on either side of the 48" Wolf range set against a marble tile wall. The french doors in the breakfast area were replaced with a single transom door to mirror the door to the pantry. We took down the wall separating the breakfast and kitchen areas, recessed the new Subzero refrigerator under the stairs, and turned the tiny screened porch into a walk in pantry with a gorgeous blue and white tile floor. At first, it seemed almost impossible, but with a little imagination, we were able to give them every item on their wish list. The homeowners dreamed of a light and bright new kitchen and that would accommodate a 48" gas range, built in refrigerator, an island and a walk in pantry. There was also a very small screened in porch off of the kitchen. The original kitchen layout consisted of a breakfast room and a small kitchen separated by a wall. This 1902 San Antonio home was beautiful both inside and out, except for the kitchen, which was dark and dated.
